Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Cheryl Champ

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In a time of great challenges for our country, we remember Dr. King’s clarity and tenacity in the fight for equality and justice.

In reflecting on the role of our schools in this work, I am reminded of a quote from Dr. King, who said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” Nearly 73 years later, these words ring true and represent the best of what we want for our students.

Please join me in commemorating Dr. King’s life and together doing our part to build a more perfect union.
