Updates on Start of School, Upcoming Events and Childcare Options
Cheryl Champ

Dear Pelham Families,

It is hard to believe that the calendar will soon turn to August and the start of the 2021-22 school year is growing nearer every day. With September on the horizon, we are getting excited to welcome all of our students back and remain committed to having full-time in-person instruction in the fall. As we prepare for what we hope will be a successful school year, I wanted to provide you with a few updates related to the ongoing pandemic, some exciting upcoming events, and information about childcare options for elementary school families.

Preparations for the Start of School

Throughout the summer, we have been actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation in New York and Westchester County as we prepare to open school. We expect that the New York State Department of Health will release updated guidance for public schools, which will set expectations about mask use, physical distancing and other protocols. We expect to reconvene the Reopening Advisory Task Force to review this information when it is available and will update families with any adjustments at that time. It is important to note that while we continue to review the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health agencies, public schools in New York State are ultimately required to follow what is set by the State Department of Health.

Hutchinson School Ribbon Cutting and PMHS Centennial Celebration

We are thrilled that the new Hutchinson School is nearing completion and will be ready to open for the school in September. A ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned for 4pm on September 9, 2021 and we can’t wait to see our students learn in this state-of-the-art space!

As we prepare to open a new school, we are also preparing to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Pelham Memorial High School with a Centennial Celebration on Saturday, October 16. Please visit the PMHS website to see the Save the Date and check back for further updates about this historic event.

Elementary Childcare Options

Last spring, the Pelham Public Schools, in collaboration with the Town of Pelham Recreation Department, launched a survey seeking to gauge interest in additional before and after school childcare options. The survey results showed significant interest in additional programming, however based on application volume the Pelham Children’s Center and Playful Wonders/Jr. Wonder are currently able to meet these needs at their traditional sites. Should enrollments increase, additional sites will be considered.

Below, please find specific information about each program, including how to register.

We hope that many Pelham families will take advantage of these opportunities and we will continue to work with our partners to expand offerings as additional needs arise.
