The Board of Education opened the new year with a regular business meeting on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.

Dr. Champ also reported that before leaving office, former State Senator Alessandra Biaggi awarded the District a $1.3 million grant for capital improvements. These funds will be used to make progress on important security upgrades including:

  • Expanding the infrastructure to support and install interior security cameras

  • Upgrading the District’s key card wipe system and

  • Installing alarms on certain exterior doors.

On behalf of the Pelham Public Schools and the Pelham Community the Board extends deep gratitude to Sen. Biaggi for her service and leadership for Pelham and all New Yorkers.

In her report on Authentic Learning, Dr. Alice Bowman, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning, shared that all schools will be participating in the National African American Read-in as part of the District's celebration of Black History Month. The AARI will feature read alouds of black authors in students’ classes as well as visits by guest readers and will culminate with a Story Hour on February 7 in the middle school library. More details will be forthcoming.

Additionally, Dr. Bowman reminded the community that free drop-in math tutoring is available to middle and high school students according to the following schedule:
