Dear Elementary Families,
I want to thank you all for your patience and understanding during what has been an incredibly difficult year. Please know that we recognize the significant challenges hybrid learning has placed on you, including child care considerations, last minute schedule changes and the academic and social-emotional impacts of remote learning on your children.
Throughout the year, we have sought to make changes to our hybrid model based on feedback from families and staff in hopes of improving the experience for all involved. With that in mind, and based on feedback from our most recent Thoughtexchange, we are making the following changes to the K-5 school day beginning February 1:
- Classes will begin at 9:10am.
- Afternoon virtual office hours will be discontinued and the regular school day will be extended to 2:50pm.
Overall these changes will provide 40 additional minutes of core academic instructional time on each full day of school and should still allow adequate time for arrival and dismissal. We believe that the morning virtual office hours will be sufficient to continue to meet the needs of our remote learners.
We are hopeful that these changes will positively impact our students’ education as we continue to operate in the hybrid model. We look forward to the time when we can bring all of our learners back to school in person, the way it is meant to be.
