Dear Pelham Community,
The Board of Education will continue its line-by-line review of the preliminary 2024-25 budget at its meeting this Wednesday, March 20 in the Pelham Middle School Library. The regular business/budget discussion portion of the meeting is expected to begin at 7:30pm following a preceding Strategic Planning work session that will begin at 3:30pm.
At the budget discussion, the Board will be joined by members of the administrative team to discuss sections of the budget related to the following topics:
-
Pupil Personnel & Counseling
-
Athletics
-
Staffing
The line-by-line budget review began at the February 28 Board meeting with a focus on the budget sections related to Teaching & Learning, Technology and BOCES. At that meeting, Dr. Champ also provided an overview of the preliminary budget, which totals $93.4 million and includes a tax-cap compliant 2.68% tax levy increase.

Dr. Champ shared that the budget was developed to sustain the rich academic program and offerings for Pelham’s students. She noted that this particular budget proposal does not seek to add additional program in light of the District’s ongoing development of its next Strategic Plan.
With that said, Dr. Champ explained that the growth in the District’s expense budget is largely driven by:
-
Salary increases related to employees' collective bargaining contracts
-
An 11% increase in health care costs, and
-
The addition of an elementary co-teaching (ICT) class and other special education related costs.
The Board will conclude the line-by-line review of the budget on Wednesday, April 3 with a review of the following sections:
-
Human Resources/Personnel
-
BOE/Superintendent
-
Benefits
-
Transportation
-
Business Office
-
Facilities
Following its review of the preliminary budget, the Board will consider a final budget for adoption at its Wednesday, April 17 meeting. The budget, as adopted, will then be subject to voter approval at the annual budget vote and school board member election on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The complete budget can be viewed on the District website.
Sincerely,
The Pelham Public Schools
