Dr. Cheryl H. Champ joined the Pelham Public Schools as Superintendent on August 8, 2017, bringing with her more than 20 years of education experience as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent.

Before coming to Pelham, Dr. Champ most recently was the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Sewanhaka Central High School District in Floral Park, NY, which serves 8,300 students in grades 7-12 and has a staff of 1,200. After assuming her position at Sewanhaka in 2012, Dr. Champ worked to provide students with disabilities and English language learners greater access to the general education curriculum, revised the district curriculum to align with Common Core Learning Standards and designed and implemented a strong professional development plan. She also oversaw the district’s Technology, Professional Development, Accountability, Response to Intervention/Academic Intervention Services, Common Core Steering and Shared Decision-making committees, among other roles and responsibilities.

She previously held positions as Principal of Lakeland High School and as assistant Principal for Lakeland Copper Beach Middle School, both in Shrub Oak, NY in Westchester County.

Dr. Champ’s career in education began as a music teacher in South Carolina, North Carolina and upstate New York before she transitioned into an administrative career. Dr. Champ received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College and her Master’s in Education Administration from the College of St. Rose.
