John Condon Appointed Director of Facilities

The Pelham Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of John P. Condon as Director of Facilities effective February 26, 2018. Mr. Condon will take over the position from current Director Anthony Mandile, who is retiring on February 28.

Mr. Condon is a resident of Pelham and currently serves as the Director of Facilities for the Eastchester Union Free School District, a position he has held since 2002. He previously held the same position for the Yorktown Central School District and prior to that was a Parks and Recreation Manager for New York City.

“We are fortunate to be able to fill this position with someone as experienced and skilled as Mr. Condon,” said Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Champ. “For more than 15 years, Mr. Mandile has worked tirelessly to maintain and upgrade our school buildings and District facilities and we are enormously thankful for his expertise, kind nature, and most importantly, his dedication to our schools and students. I have no doubt that the level of care and pride for our buildings and grounds will continue under Mr. Condon’s leadership.”

Mr. Condon said, “I am thankful to the Board of Education, Dr. Champ and the administration for the opportunity to join the Pelham Public Schools. As a resident, I know that the community takes great pride in its schools, and I look forward to working with the facilities team to ensure our buildings and grounds remain in great condition.”

The Director of Facilities position is an essential piece of the Pelham Public Schools’ Business Office and is responsible for management of the District’s custodial department, grounds and maintenance staff and systems technicians. Mr. Condon, who holds a Masters of Public Administration from Columbia University, brings important experience managing facilities in a similar-sized school District. Additionally, he has overseen the construction of $60 million dollars in capital improvements during his time in Eastchester.

“I feel fortunate to have been able to work alongside Mr. Mandile for the past several months,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Jim Hricay. “His knowledge of these schools inside and out is unparalleled and there is no doubt that he leaves large shoes to fill.

“We are also lucky to be able to bring in a high-caliber successor in Mr. Condon. I look forward to working with him over the coming months and years to ensure that our facilities and grounds are in the best condition possible for our students and staff.”

Mr. Mandile joined the District as a custodian in 1994 and was named Director of Facilities in 2005. During his tenure, he has overseen the successful construction of Pelham Middle School as well as several other capital improvement projects. He has been a vital member of the team and has worked to ensure the District’s schools are equipped to accommodate the needs of our students in a cost-effective and forward thinking way. 

“I have known Mr. Condon for many years and he will be an excellent Director of Facilities for the Pelham School District,” said Mr. Mandile. “I would like to thank members of the administration, past and present, and, the incredible members of the Pelham facilities staff, who I truly believe are the best and most knowledgeable in the county of Westchester. While I am looking forward to retirement, I will always be proud of the work we have done here together.”
