Home Instruction Policy

The process for home instruction is outlined in the Pelham Board of Education Policy 8470, the Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP), as well as Part 100.10 of the Commissioner’s Regulations, containing the procedures for undertaking Home Schooling.

The process begins with the parent/guardian providing written notice to the Superintendent of Schools or designee of their intention to educate their child at home.

The Superintendent or designee will contact the parent/guardian and provide the documents and process stated herein.  Within four weeks from receipt of this correspondence, the parent/guardian will complete the Individual Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) and return to the district.  The child’s IHIP will be forwarded to the assigned school Principal to review for final approval  Once the proposed IHIP is approved, it will be signed and returned to the parent/guardian. Additionally, the parent/guardian will complete quarterly progress reports, and submit to the district as well.

Please contact the office of Teaching & Learning should any assistance or guidance be needed in completing the IHIP form.
