In Person Learning

In preparing for the reopening of school buildings, the District has increased health and safety precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19. These protocols were studied by the District's Reopening Health and Safety, and Logistics committees, which were led by Assistant Superintendent for Business Jim Hricay and included input from school principals, the director of facilities, teachers, and the District physician. Specific areas of focus include:

  • Cleaning and building logistics

  • Maximizing use of space to promote physical distancing

  • Daily health screening

  • Classroom configuration

  • Lunch/recess

  • Personal Protective Equipment expectations for students and staff

Plan Highlights

  • Students and staff must wear masks when in school

  • Breaks will be scheduled periodically so that students can remove their masks.

  • The District is also purchasing portable barriers for all students to provide additional protection

  • Start and dismissal times will be staggered to prevent large gatherings (school-specific plans will be communicated by your school principal)

  • Visitors will have their temperatures taken and complete a health questionnaire prior to entering any school building.

  • Visitors will only be permitted for essential District business

  • Classrooms will be rearranged to the extent possible to maximize space between desks/work areas

  • Physical barriers are being added to better protect students and staff in designated areas

  • The District will seek to maximize the use of outdoor space, weather permitting

  • Large group activities/field trips will be postponed/cancelled or held virtually
